--- Studying abroad this past summer was definitely the best experience I've ever had in my life, and deciding to actually go was the best decision I could have ever made. There is no experience comparable to living in a foreign country for 6 weeks. Even traveling does not measure up. During my time abroad, I was living in the middle of Florence with 22 other students in my program. It's amazing to me how quickly we bonded as a group, none of us having really known each other before we arrived in Italy. I took photography and drawing at the Accademia Italiana and learned a lot taking these classes in a city that revolves around art. Every weekend I traveled to a different place including Siena, San Gimignano, Viareggio, Cinque Terre, Rome, Amalfi Coast, Venice, Bologna, Paris, Naples, and more. After my program ended, my mom and brother flew out to travel with me for 10 days. Living abroad greatly increased my cultural awareness and adaptability. Learning to adjust to a whole new set of customs was not as difficult as I thought it would be and I found that I didn't even go through culture shock. It's obvious to me that I learned the most outside the classroom, although the staff at the Accademia were a great help. I can't imagine what my summer would be like if I hadn't studied abroad, seeing that it still affects every aspect of my life even in America. I constantly find myself saying "but in Italy they do this..." and luckily my roommate, who also studied abroad this summer, can understand some of my struggles with returning home after this dreamlike experience. That's really what it feels like, a dream.

--- Looking through pictures from Italy 2007, I can't wait to be out there for two months this summer. This picture was taken in
Florence (where I'll be living and taking classes) in the Piazza della Signoria.
